Beautifully decorated restaurant with lovely music
The staff were all so nice and courteous
We order the egg rolls, dumplings and the pancakes -  all of them were absolutely delicious and so flavorful
For the main course we ordered the salmon, stir fried chicken and the yellow curry - again so many delicious seasonings and flavors
Thank you Houston's Restaurant Week for giving us an opportunity to each

My date was assaulted upstairs in the bar on the night of 8/31/19.
A girl came over and was yelling at her and started pulling her hair! She wasn't hurt but it was a terrible situation!

The management immediately kicked the girl and her friend out which was to be expected. However, what came as a shock was their insistence that we do not discuss what had just occurred. Also no apology whatsoever from the management!

Understandably, my date was extremely upset over the situation. We were discussing what could have possibly set this crazy girl off when the manager came over and took me aside and told me that if we continued to talk about what had just occurred, we would be asked to leave as well.

So the manager was more concerned with others in the bar possibly overhearing us discussing what they had just witnessed vs comforting a guest that was just assaulted? So I posted this review due to the exceedingly poor way the management handled this situation.

This place has gone way downhill.

I go there at least twice a month. Same problem every single time. The service is bad bad bad. Horrible to the point where I have to get up and call a waiter. They are inattentive and rude. Very short. Barely do the minimum. Another issue is how long the wait is between course and course. Bad timing.

Food is great, that's the only reason I go there. Please have a manager contact me. What's going on guys?

This was my second time coming to Le Colonial and while I absolutely adore the set up inside, I think they can seriously improve upon the service because I don't think I am wrong when I say that ambience is only further elevated when you have proper service. Food is slightly on the more expensive side but that is to be expected at ROD. And while it might be on the pricey side, the good things that they have are definitely worth it! There is valet parking available but I always opt for self parking whenever the option presents itself.

Upon arrival, I was not greeted by anyone so I had to get someone's attention to alert them that we had arrived. We were seated and the person taking us to our table was probably the best interaction between us and people working there I had the entire evening. Our server came by shortly and I felt like he was either overwhelmed or just not interested in checking on us. Believe me, I don't like people checking on the table all the time incessantly but geez - checking on how each course is during the meal wouldn't kill you.

For the first course I opted for the shrimp dumplings while my dining companion got the tuna tartare (I think) which was topped with caviar and OMG it was worth every penny/every bite! For second course, I got the curry with shrimp. It might have been my misunderstanding from the menu, but I did not see any warnings that it would come with a jalapeno. Considering that I have recently developed a slight sensitivity to them, I would have known for sure not to order it. This is what the HRW menu describes the dish (CÀ RI TÔM) as, "5 pieces of jumbo gulf shrimp, bamboo shoots, snap peas, zucchini, spicy coconut green curry broth." I have had several varieties of green curry but I have never tasted one that had the lingering taste of jalapeno. Thankfully, my friend had ordered the BO LUC LAC and we traded towards the end because I just couldn't eat my food.

However, once dessert was served, all my aggression towards the second course turned into an ode for the restaurant. I had ordered the opera cake and it was just what I needed after the spicy second course. The sorbet helped cool down the fire in my mouth and the spongy almond cake really provided some much needed relief. I had to practically flag our server down to ask for a much needed latte. Overall, the food is pretty good if you know what you are getting. However, I wish the service was a little better considering how cute it is inside!

Overall experience: Food was good. Service was very rude.

I did a quick yelp search before writing this review for "hostess" and saw so many reviews similar to my experience. It is such a shame. I've been wanting to check out Le Colonial for a while and finally came for HRW. As a Vietnamese person growing up with my mom's homecooked meal, I was impressed with Le Colonial's food quality and flavors. Of course it is not as authentic as a hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Chinatown. However, the location is gorgeous and the menu is decent with a good variety of options to choose from. With the amount of money people expect to pay for these dishes, the least we can ask for is good service. But nah, service was so bad it ruined our experience at the restaurant.

I made a reservation online. When I didn't show up on time, I got a call from the restaurant. I told them I was 5 minutes away. The girl was very upset and said I should have called if I was 15 minutes late or else they would give up our table. Ok, understood.

When we walked in, he hostess in ao dai was unwelcoming, no smiles, no hellos. She asked if we'd like to sit outside or inside. We said either one was fine because we weren't picky. She told us, with an attitude like we were making an unreasonable request to sit inside, that only outside tables were available. Even though at that point, we saw at least 4 open tables inside. Ok, no problem.

She then walked us to a small table outside. The wind blew the table cloth over the top and the utensils and plates were messy. She let us stand there and wait while straightening up the table without saying anything. Only 2 tables outside at this point were occupied. Eventually, we asked to sit at a table next to it. Ok, that was very unnecessary.

On a bright side, food was good for $20 HRW lunch. Note that bo luc lac is a $6 upgrade, chicken curry is also $5, and desserts are also additional $5 each. Cocktails are decent. Parking is free at the nearby parking garage.
